Liliana Porter
(Buenos Aires, 1941)


Studied at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano and Prilidiano Pueyrredón. She also studied printing at Escuela Superior Ernesto de la Cárcova. She lived in Mexico City from 1958 to 1961 where she studied with the Colombian Guillermo Silva Santamaría, and with the German artist Mathias Goeritz at Universidad Iberoamericana and Taller de La Ciudadela. She presented her first exhibition in Mexico. In 1964 she moved to New York and in 1965 was the co-founder of the New York Graphic Workshop. She was awarded the Guggenheim fellowship in 1980, and was Professor in the Art Department at Queens College, City University of New York, from 1991 to 2007. Her most recent solo exhibition was held at the Museo Tamayo in México, and her group exhibitions at Blanton Museum of Art, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, MoMA, and Sharjah Biennial. Her work is held in many public and private collections, including the Tate Modern, MoMA, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Macro and Malba. She has been living and working in New York since 1964.
