The Challenger's Report – Irene Kopelman

Date: 10 February 2012 - 15 April 2012.

The first UK solo exhibition by Argentine artist Irene Kopelman looks at how relationships to landscape and the natural world are culturally conditioned and subject to change.

 

Irene Kopelman was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1974. She completed her degree in painting at the National University of Cordoba (1995-2000) and her postgraduate studies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (2002-2003). Since then she lives and works in Amsterdam.

 

Thursday 15 March 6.30 – 8pm:

Artist Irene Kopelman introduces her practice and speaks about the development of The Challenger’s Report at Gasworks, offering an insight into her research and working process.

Lines of Thought - Group Show - Jorge Macchi

The exhibition explores the work of 15 contemporary artists, whose practice has focused in particular on using line in creatively challenging ways. With works representing different generations, it is remarkable to observe how the meaning and use of line varies from one artist to another.

Book Launch: 'Seven ways to kill a cat', Matías Néspolo

Date: Thursday 1 March 2012, 18.30 - 20.30

 

Venue: Canning House, 2 Belgrave Square, SW1X 8PJ 

 

Matías Néspolo will present his debut novel 'Seven Ways to Kill a Cat' along with translator Frank Wynne. Together they will discuss the process of translating a book rich in 'Lunfardo', a dialect originating from Buenos Aires. 

 

Written in the street-slang of the slums, and full of fantastic characters this is one of those novels that is about one place and every place.

 

 

 

Matías Néspolo was born in Buenos Aires in 1975. He studied literature, going on to write poems, short stories, journalism and then Seven Ways to Kill a Cat, his acclaimed first novel. He has been living in Barcelona since 2001 and, in 2010, was selected by Granta as one of their best young contemporary Spanish language novelists.

Martín Alvarado - UK Tour

Martín Alvarado is undoubtedly one of the finest Argentine singers of the new generation in the world today.

 

With four solo albums: "Martín Alvarado" (2004), "This is my tango"(2006), "North Tango, Tango Sur" and "Beyond" (with Horacio Avilano trio) and more than 300 concerts, Alvarado is widely seen as an important ambassador for tango across the world.

 

The tour, which kicks off on March 1 will see him perform nine concerts in 11 days with three dates in London and others in Lincoln, Manchester, Chesterfield, Brighton, Southwell and Leominster.

Ritual without Myth - Amalia Pica

Ritual without Myth is an exhibition that considers the potential of ritual as a catalyst for transformative experience. The exhibition features the work of Argentine artist Amalia Pica alongside an innovative group of international artists.

 

Amalia Pica’s work involves performance, sculpture, filmic and photographic objects, as well as texts and ready-mades. This exhibition will present her work Final de Fiesta where Pica recalls the unusually lonely feeling that sets in once the guests have gone home. 

 

Saturday 10 March: Amalia will be discussing her artistic practice and reflecting on her work in the exhibition, with Julieta González, associate curator of Latin American Art at Tate Modern, London.

Marcela Roggeri - Florent Héau Concert
